Meeting Minutes
WELCOME/INTRODUCTIONS:
Guest Aimee Phelps Lee-Development Director Newport Public Education Foundation.
Aimee is working to get the word out regarding the Excellence grants available to teachers/students in the Newport Public Schools. The focus is enrichment! They would like input from PTOs to increase public involvement and community support. Future showcase/fundraiser is entitled, “Good News in the Newport Schools”. This is a family event scheduled for May 29th, 6-8pm at Roger’s High School. There will be music provided by students, food, science fair winners with their projects displayed and each school present showcasing their pride! In addition, NPEF is sponsoring the Mother’s Day Run/Walk scheduled for Sinday, may 13th starting at Roger’s at 9am. The event will finish with prizes and gifts for the Mom’s!

Reading Week- April 9-13, 2007 Reading Week entails events, guest readers, books signed by author, Kelly Fox, snacks with a book a day reading, “Guess your favorite character” from the front door dressing of each teacher’s classroom and a silent reading in the library with a beach theme just in time for summer!
FINANCIAL REPORT: Karla Little – see attached
BOOK FAIR: Jennifer Harris Book Fair scheduled for May 21st. Presently asking teachers for summer reading lists to help Jennifer select books for fair. Jennifer will also need help May 18th to help setup and merchandise. Teacher preview luncheon scheduled for Monday, May 21st and Melissa Pattavina will organize.
FIELD DAY: JUNE 12th
Karla Little suggested having the lunch catered to allow the parents some time off. In addition, Sue, the cafeteria queen, will be taking the day off and will be compensated by PTO as a show of our appreciation for all her hard work! Climbing walls and bouncey jump centers to be included in field day festivities paid for by PTO. Kerry to investigate caterers in the area who can provide a healthy picnic/box lunch.

WE APPRECIATE MRS EASTER’S DEDICATION AND HARD WORK OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS AND WILL MISS HER GREATLY. GOOD LUCK!
